BACK TO VIETNAM 2012
BACK TO VIETNAM 2012
A once in a life time trip
March 9-21, 2012
Yes perhaps
you were there once or twice back in the 60’s and 70’s most not by choice. I am
sure you said that you never wanted to go back but as you have aged there have
always been in the back of your mind “I wonder what Vietnam is really like
now”. This may be the last chance you ever get to just go see how much it has
changed.
Like many of
you I said I never wanted to see that stinking and rotten place again. Then I
went back in 2006 and it was not a place of war, but a place of beauty. The
people were friendly and very pleased to welcome those of us that went back in
2006. I have been telling my wife since I came back in 2006 that I wish I had
taken her with me. This time she is going.
Attached is
the itinerary for a 13 day trip. We have tried to get as much as possible in
with a little leisure to explore other things in the vicinity where we will be.
I realize its Christmas time and the economy is not good, but we have hammered
the tour company down as low as we possibly can. But again this may be your
only and last chance to go back to a country you will never forget. Some have
said they never wanted to go back because of the war. Frankly it was good for
me to go back. It brought peace in some areas of my mind.
The cost of
the land tour is $1120 per person is based on double occupancy per room and you
only have to pay half now and the other half when you arrive in Vietnam. If you
are not taking your wife we will room you with another single. If you want a
single room of your own there will be an additional cost $600. This also
includes most of your meals. You will be responsible for your own airfare to
and from Saigon. We would like for you to arrive in Saigon no later than
March 9, 2012. Be careful in booking your flight as many of the flights going
out of Los Angeles do not get in until 10:30 PM. You will be picked up at the
airport and transported to the hotel. Our Tour Company will be Ann Tours and
you can find them on the web at
https://www.anntours.com/default.aspx
. They are really good. They are the same company we used in 2006.
To make your
deposit fill out the attached form filling in all the information and send with
a copy of your passport (the page with your photo, name and number) mail them to

Things you need before you go:
You must
have a valid passport that is valid for 6 months from the day you arrive. If
you do not have a passport you can go the post office and put in an
application. (At this time of the year you will be waiting in line for a long
time). I have found going to your County Seat is the best way to get one except
you have to have passport photos made before you go and take with you. I have
found this is the best way. Most Wal Marts with photography studios will do a
passport photo for you. You are going to need additional photos for your VISA.
You must have a Vietnam VISA to be able to enter the country or the Vietnam
Government will send you back on the next plane. There are 3 ways to get a
VISA. Your name must be the same on your VISA as your passport.
(1) If you live close to Washington, DC you can go to the Vietnam Embassy or if
you live close to San Francisco, CA you can go to the Consulate General of
Vietnam and get a VISA in the same day. You can also mail the VISA Application
to the above with the appropriate fee and a return envelope.
(2) You can use a VISA service. This is what I did last time. I used
Zaire Visa service
http://internationalpassportandvisa.com/?visa/zaire_visa.php
and it takes about a week unless you wait until the last week and need a rush
then it cost a lot more. You can get cheaper service providers, but normally
you get what you pay for and this will be an important document.
(3) Down load the VISA application at
http://www.vietnamembassy-usa.org/services/visa-application-process.
Click on
Application form.
You
can download it in PDF or MS Word format. Mail that in with your passport,
photos and fee to the address listed in the upper left corner. All fees must be
paid by MONEY ORDER, or CASHIER’S CHECK, or CERTIFIED CHECK payable to “THE
EMBASSY OF VIETNAM.”
In a few days
I will add a links to the 189th web site of other important
information that will be helpful to you in making this trip one you will never
forget.
If you have
more questions just send me an email
Gerry.sandlin@gmail.com.
I want this
trip to be enjoyable for everyone.
